Bounded Buffer Synchronization and Invariant Horizons in High-Throughput Chronos-B...

Abstract

The Chronos-Buffer Ring implements a lock-free, single-producer, single-consumer queue with a power-of-two sized circular buffer. Its core invariant is that the producer sequence monotonically increases while the consumer sequence never overtakes it, guaranteeing sequential consistency without locks. Enqueue operations perform a single atomic increment and a bounded busy-spin on the gating sequence, yielding an amortized O(1) cost. Dequeue operations read the next sequence and rely on a single compare-and-swap to advance the consumer cursor, achieving O(1) amortized cost with contention bounded by the number of producers P. Formal proofs establish linearizability with respect to a FIFO specification. Static analysis confirms a structural complexity of O(N) auxiliary memory and a verified AST metric of 142 SLOC and 26 function blocks.
