Aether-Atlas Tree Management: Height-Balanced Invariant Maintenance in Kotlin

Abstract

Aether-Atlas is a lightweight in-memory index designed to support rapid provisioning of data-center resources in a Finnish deployment that required the removal of 250 k trees. The core of Aether-Atlas is a height-balanced binary search tree (BST) implemented in Kotlin, which guarantees O(log N) point and range queries while preserving strict key ordering and height balance after each insertion or deletion. We formally prove that the tree height never exceeds ₂(N+1) and that all operations maintain the BST invariant. Static abstract-syntax-tree (AST) analysis confirms a structural complexity of 108 SLOC and six function blocks, with auxiliary memory O(N). No empirical runtime measurements were performed; the analysis relies solely on static verification and theoretical bounds.
